WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Not much has been happening lately with the Lake Wichita Revitalization Project’s dredging phase —until now.

Project Manager for the Continuing Authorities Program through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Chad King, was at today’s meeting to discuss next steps for dredging Lake Wichita.

After the meeting ended, King was taken on a tour of Lake Wichita to better understand what the Lake Wichita Revitalization Committee is trying to accomplish.

King said that, overall, he can see why Lake Wichita is having trouble maintaining water levels.

“It’s a beautiful lake. Really neat. You know, ecosystem here. It was definitely shallow. So, you know, and you can see where, you know, how that impact happened by having the, can’t hold much more water even when it when it’s good, it can’t hold water in the, in the rainy season to last it through a lot of the time because at the low length of the spillway,” King said.

King said the next step is to sit and wait for this particular project to be approved, as it’s in a queue among several other nationally ranked projects. Once the project is approved, then the feasibility study will begin.
