Posted on August 19, 2026

The final phase of a project aimed at strengthening the coast line is complete.

The months-long Grand Strand Renourishment project is complete.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said the coast now has a stronger first line of defense against major storms. Crews finished work this weekend after placing more than 1,000,000 cubic yards of sand across nearly 28 miles of coastline.

The project spanned North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Surfside Beach, and Garden City. The newly widened beaches are designed to protect coastal communities and support the local tourism economy.

All sections of the beach are now fully reopened to the public.
