U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Albuquerque District Welcomes 39th District Commander

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Lt. Col. Matthew T. Miller assumed command of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Albuquerque District from Lt. Col. Jerre V. Hansbrough during a formal change of command ceremony today at the Balloon Fiesta Park Golf & Event Center.

Headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the district serves more than 200,000 square miles of the Southwestern USA providing comprehensive engineering, construction, regulatory, environmental, and emergency response support. The district includes nine USACE dams, four major military installations, and nearly 200 miles of the Rio Grande.

Prior to assuming command of the Albuquerque District, Lt. Col. Miller served as the Deputy District Commander of the USACE-Jacksonville District.

Lt. Col. Miller’s other military assignments include serving in the 101st Airborne Division (AASLT), Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, as the Deputy Division Operations Officer (G3), Deputy Division Engineer and the Battalion Operations Officer and Battalion Executive Officer for the 21st Brigade Engineer Battalion; Company Commander, 95th Clearance Company, Schofield Barracks, Hawaiʻi; U.S. Army Pacific Facilities and Construction Management Engineer, 130th Engineer Brigade Plans Officer; and Company Executive Officer and Platoon Leader in the 3rd Infantry Division, Ft. Stewart, Georgia. These assignments include deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and the U.S. southwest border.

After Company Command, Lt. Col. Miller served in the USACE-New Orleans District as a Project Engineer and Project Manager for several Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System (HSDRRS) projects. Lt. Col. Miller also served briefly as the USACE-Mississippi Valley Division Aide De Camp.

Lt. Col. Miller was commissioned into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 2006; he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Florida State University, a master’s degree in engineering management from the University of Missouri Science and Technology, and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of South Florida. Lt. Col. Miller is a registered Professional Engineer in the state of Florida and a licensed Project Management Professional.

Lt. Col. Miller’s military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (OLC); Meritorious Service Medal (3OLC); Joint Service Commendation Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal (4OLC); National Defense Service Medal; Iraqi Campaign Medal; Afghan Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon (OLC); NATO ISAF Medal; FORSCOM Engineer PL of the Year (2008); Combat Action Badge; Parachutist Badge; Air Assault Badge; Pathfinder Badge; Sapper Tab; and the Ranger Tab.
