City waiting for federal bill that provides $1.8 million
TWO RIVERS, Wis. (WBAY) – City leaders in Two Rivers say a drafted federal bill could help make the city’s harbor channel safer.
A recent survey found the interior of the channel is in bad shape from sediment buildup.
Experts recommend the channel be dredged every five years to keep it safe for boats to move through. The last time the harbor was dredged was in 2020.
The city has to rely on federal funding because of the size of the waterway.
The proposed bill includes $1.8 million for Two Rivers to clean up the channel.
While the funding isn’t final, city officials say it’s good progress on a project that’s already seen major delays.
They hope to have it dredged sometime in 2027.
