- The Port Authority of Valencia (APV) has assessed the environmental criteria and commitments assumed in the selected bid, as they are in line with those of the Port Authority itself; these include respect for the environment and the exclusion of clinker and cement.
- This new facility will strengthen the competitiveness of the Port of Sagunto and generate direct and indirect jobs in the “Camp de Morvedre” region.
- The APV Board of Directors meeting, held online today, also agreed to improve the facilities on the Valencia-Algeria passenger line.
Valencia – The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Valencia (APV) has selected the joint bid submitted by the companies Ership, Intersagunto and Compañía General de Compras Agropecuarias (CGCA) for the award of an administrative concession for the construction and operation of the solid bulk terminal (excluding clinker and cement) at the Port of Sagunto.
The aim of this project is to boost local and regional economic activity by attracting new investment and operators in the field of solid bulk goods compatible with current port operations. Revitalising bulk traffic will not only strengthen the port’s competitiveness, but also generate direct and indirect employment, promoting growth in strategic sectors such as agribusiness, metallurgy and construction.
One of the unique features of this tender is its commitment to decarbonisation and the environment, giving equal weight to both qualitative (technical proposal) and quantitative (financial proposal) assessments, with 50% of the total score allocated to each of these areas. This distribution reflects a commitment to sustainable development and compliance with best environmental practices.
The high rating given specifically to environmental criteria in the qualitative section, highlights the importance that the APV attaches to protecting the environment and promoting responsible and sustainable initiatives. This is an offer that involves the development of modern and efficient infrastructure, ensuring compliance with the most demanding operational and environmental standards.
The Board of Directors, which met online today, also approved the request by the company GARBAPORT, to expand the area under concession for the construction and operation of a solid waste sorting plant, the purpose of which is the thorough segregation of waste managed by the Port of Valencia. This will enable the recovery of practically 90% of the materials to be treated.
This expansion is in line with the APV’s strategy aimed at increasing the functional and operational value of its facilities, in a process of competitive improvement in accordance with the Port Authority’s environmental commitments and challenges.
Improvements to the Valencia-Algiers passenger line
The APV Board of Directors has also agreed to improve the boarding and disembarkation facilities for passengers travelling to and from Algeria. To this end, it has approved a request from the company Baleària Eurolíneas Marítimas to install a removable structure to support boarding and disembarkation operations and improve the service provided to these passengers.
The Council has also given the go-ahead for work to begin on the structural verification of civil engineering works for phase 2 of the defence reinforcement project at the Levante quay of APM Terminals València. This project counts with a budget of €855,542. The Board of Directors meeting also agreed today to begin the process of authorising a €300 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB). This amount will be used to finance the APV’s Investment Plan.
