Swiftships has received a contract to deliver seven additional coastal patrol craft (CPC) for the Egyptian Navy.
The award follows an agreement in 2022 to deliver six patrol vessels on top of orders in 2014 and 2016.
A total of 23 boats, including units under construction, will be delivered to the navy by 2027.
Egyptian Navy Coastal Patrols
Egypt’s future CPCs have a maximum speed of 25 knots (46 kilometers/29 miles per hour) and a range of up to 900 nautical miles (1,700 kilometers/1,000 miles).
The 28-meter (92 feet) vessels are powered by two CAT diesel engines and are armed with 12.7-millimeter machine guns.
Local Production of CPC Kits
Swiftships has a separate contract with the Egyptian Navy to support its CPC fleet.
Last year, the company received a modification order for 10 coastal patrol kits to manufacture related CPC equipment locally in Egypt.
The kit production is being carried out with the Alexandria Shipyard and Egyptian Ship Repair and Building Company in Elgomrok.
The kit package consists of forward-looking infrared systems, Zodiac rigid inflatable boats, personal computer equipment, and technical engineering data.
Fast Patrol Vessels
Meanwhile, Swiftships is negotiating with the Egyptian government to construct 35-meter (115 feet) fast patrol vessels in Alexandria.
The all-aluminum ships will have a top speed of 32 knots (60 kilometers/37 miles per hour) and a range of 1,000-nautical miles (1,860 kilometers/1,150 miles).
Egypt plans to install three MTU engines on the vessels, 12.7-millimeter remote-controlled machine guns from Rheinmetall, and additional weapons.
