Swift Response at Sea: GLDD Crew Assists in Successful Rescue Near Sabine Pass

Posted on June 1, 2026

On May 30, the crew of GLDD’s trailing suction hopper dredge Galveston Island demonstrated exceptional teamwork and situational awareness while assisting in a maritime rescue near Sabine Pass.

After a nearby vessel intercepted a Mayday call from a disabled boat, the Galveston Island crew helped relay critical information to the U.S. Coast Guard despite challenging radio conditions. With only limited details to guide them, the crew spotted the stranded vessel—identified by an orange distress flag—and safely navigated to its location.

They remained on site to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of the two passengers until the USCG arrived and completed the rescue.

This response reflects the professionalism, vigilance, and safety-first mindset that define our operations every day. Great work to the entire team.
