Sustainably growing and developing the Port of Brisbane for Queensland

Posted on September 23, 2026

Port of Brisbane Pty Ltd (PBPL) has released its 2025/26 Sustainability Report, detailing the Port’s role in supporting Queensland’s trade growth, investing in resilient infrastructure and continuing to embed sustainability across its operations.

CEO Neil Stephens said the report reflects a year of strong outcomes and continued progress delivering PBPL’s Sustainability Program.

“The Port of Brisbane plays a critical role in connecting Queensland trade with global markets, and our focus remains on supporting growth in a responsible, resilient and sustainable way,” Mr Stephens said.

“In FY26, the Port handled 38.64 million tonnes of total trade including a record 1.74 million TEUs, while investing $171 million in port infrastructure and property development to support future trade and port growth.

“We maintained Net Zero emissions (scope 1 and 2, with offsets) for a third consecutive year, provided access to the Virtual Energy Network for port customers and now operate over 8MW of solar and 2.3MWh of battery storage.

“Across the business, we’ve continued to focus on practical initiatives that improve safety, reduce environmental impacts, strengthen partnerships and support communities connected to the Port.

“This included completing our three-year Whyte Island Rehabilitation Project to rehabilitate over 20ha of ecologically valuable port land and achieving 6-Star Green Star certification for the Electrolux Group facility at Port West Stage 2 and introducing sustainability assessment tools for key infrastructure and property projects.

“We’ve remained an active community partner, completing our ‘Innovate’ Reconciliation Action Plan and providing $464,500 in community funding to 36 groups while our team undertook 595 hours of volunteering to support organisations in their local communities.”

Mr Stephens thanked PBPL employees and all port stakeholders for their ongoing contribution to the Port’s sustainability journey.

“Our sustainability progress is built on collaboration – across our teams and with our customers and partners, and community stakeholders,” Mr Stephens said.
