Surf City will address erosion with emergency beach renourishment project

Posted on April 8, 2024

SURF CITY, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Surf City Council has approved an emergency beach renourishment project during Tuesday’s meeting.

The project will address erosion that occurred back in February when several big storms and high tides hit the town.

Around 5,500 cubic yards of sand will be added to the beach.

Kyle Brewer is the town manager for Surf City and spoke about where the project will occur.

“Some unfortunate high tides that caused some major escarpment along the portion of the beach essentially between the 900 and 1100 block of South Shore that has left the beach in a vulnerable position and then has restricted access down to the beach,” Brewer said.

Brewer said the project will take about a week and is scheduled to be completed before May 1st.
