Associated British Ports (ABP) Southampton is seeking a licence renewal for crucial maintenance dredging operations.
The application to the Marine Management Organisation aims to ensure safe navigation within Southampton’s busy port and its approaches.
The dredging operations are planned for twice a year—March to April and September to October.
ABP Southampton has proposed to dispose of the dredged material at the designated Nab Tower site.
The port is a vital hub for the UK’s economy, supporting 45,600 jobs and contributing £2.5 billion annually.
It handles more than £71 billion worth of goods each year.
The current maintenance dredge licence expires in October 2025.
The new application seeks permission to continue dredging up to 675,000 tonnes of material annually.
