VICKSBURG, Miss. – Adam Sisco has joined the Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory’s Hydrologic Systems Branch at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC).

Sisco earned his bachelor’s degree in geoscience from Mississippi State University in 2016 and his master’s degree in atmospheric science from the University at Albany, State University of New York in 2021. As a graduate student, Sisco’s research focused on understanding the limits of medium-range atmospheric predictability downstream of developing midlatitude cyclones. He also supported flight planning for several atmospheric river reconnaissance missions during the 2021 observation campaign.

Between receiving his degrees, Sisco supported the NASA Earth Science Data Systems Program as a research associate at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where he contributed to a variety of initiatives aimed at improving the discoverability, accessibility and usability of NASA’s Earth science data holdings. He is also a member of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and was selected as a participant in the AMS Early Career Leadership Academy in 2019.

Sisco will be working on both civil works and military engineering projects, researching weather-informed hydrologic predictions, reservoir operations and decision support.

ERDC is one of the most diverse engineering and scientific research organizations in the world, conducting research and development in support of the Soldier, military installations and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers civil works mission, as well as for other federal, state and municipal authorities. As part of ERDC, the Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory addresses an entire spectrum of water resource challenges in groundwater, watersheds, rivers, reservoirs, estuaries, harbors, coastal inlets and wetlands and delivers solutions to our Nation’s most challenging coastal and hydraulics problems through research, development and application of cutting-edge science, engineering and technology.
