The air lubrication company hopes that the new hiring will help continue its international growth plans as it looks to make the technology a global standard.

Maritime air lubrication technology company Silverstream Technologies has revealed the appointment of Alistair Mackenzie as its new chief commercial officer (CCO).

The former executive vice-president of Kongsberg Maritime’s Strategy and Global Operations, Mackenzie joins Silverstream as the company looks to expand its international presence.

Mackenzie described the company as “future-focused”, saying: “The maritime industry is looking for economic and environmental savings and is open to disruption, but we cannot rest on the laurels of our success so far.

“I aim to ensure that we have excellent intelligence and clear commercial direction as we continue this exciting growth journey.”

UK-based Silverstream describes itself as the market leader in air lubrication technology for the shipping industry via its specialist system, which creates a carpet of microbubbles under the bottom of a vessel to reduce friction.

Alistair Mackenzie joins Silverstream Technologies from Kongsberg Maritime.

The company’s international operations have included the installation of its tech on Chinese LNG carriers earlier this year, as well as a partnership with Drydocks World-Dubai on retrofit projects.

Silverstream founder and CEO Noah Silberschmidt said he was very pleased with Mackenzie’s appointment, commenting: “He is a highly respected commercial leader with over two decades of experience supporting some of the biggest names in the maritime sector to scale successfully and lead their markets.

“He will bring an invaluable perspective to the task of scaling our technology and our business globally, supporting the fantastic team we already have in place.”

Silberschmidt also added that the appointment will help the company realise its vision of air lubrication becoming a standard application for the global fleet of vessels.
