Silt Affecting Winter Port Business

Business is on the upswing at the Florence-Lauderdale Port, but in winter, access is sometimes an issue.

The Tennessee River port has long been the Shoals’ primary industrial access point to inland waterways, and business has been good. Port director Hal Greer said the board of directors has acquired more land for storage.

“We’re seeing increased tonnage in aluminum, and we’re holding a lot more in storage,” he said. “We have 50,000 tons of aluminum stored now.”
