Scape raids McAlpine and Arcadis for senior hires

Posted on June 23, 2021

Scape has recruited two senior members from Arcadis and Sir Robert McAlpine as it prepares for more public sector project investment.

Andy Bacon has joined the framework provider from Sir Robert McAlpine to take up the position of head of category management, which will involve working with contractors on Scape’s construction, civil engineering and consultancy frameworks. He was previously head of strategic procurement at McAlpine for four years, having previously worked at Laing O’Rourke as head of procurement.

Hilary Carter (pictured, below) has joined from Arcadis and will be head of client management at Scape. Carter, who has joined after a year spent as client director at Arcadis, will ensure that projects meet priorities set out by the public sector, including increasing social value and work to address climate change.

A spokesperson for Arcadis told Construction News that it has appointed a replacement for Carter internally.

Scape chief executive Mark Robinson said Scape was focused on helping clients build “resilient, greener, and more inclusive communities” with their investments. “Our public sector colleagues can continue to be the main vehicle for the economic recovery while promoting the new standards – driven by sustainability and social value as set out in the government’s Construction Playbook,” he added.

The announcement comes as Scape began its search for contractors on a £750m framework in the East Midlands and East of England earlier this month. The authority included the option for ‘lifecycle agreements’ in the framework, setting sustainability targets for the life of the building.
