Following agitation by the tribals of Saputara and Navagam villages in the last few days demanding steps to check depletion of water in Sarpaganga lake, Dang district administration on Thursday ordered desilting and dredging of the pond.

Officials of Saputara Notified Area Authority have asked hotel owners and others to remove their pipelines from Sarpaganga lake. Hotels have been given permission to draw water from the lake during this weekend, anticipating rush of tourists on account of holiday on Eid al-Fitr.

Chief Officer of Saputara Notified Area Authority and deputy collector S B Chaudhary told TOI, “Instructions have been given to hotel owners to stop drawing water from the lake and remove their pipelines after the festival. The process of issuing tender for dredging and desilting of the lake will be issued in October. We intend to complete dredging work by 2016. The water level in the lake is depleting fast due to less rainfall this season.”
