The Romanian government approved a 1.059 billion lei ($229 million/212.8 million euro) plan to dredge the port of Constanta, aiming to deepen basins and navigable channels across its three main areas, the transport ministry said.

The dredging works will span 400 hectares, the transportation ministry said in a social media post on February 16.

The project will have a duration of 39 months, including 30 months of dredging. It will be financed through EU funds and the state budget.

In 2022, the port of Constanta handled more than 75.5 million tonnes of goods, up from 67.5 million tonnes a year earlier, data from the port’s website shows.
