The ocean currents constantly move sand into the entrance to the Port of Hirtshals.
Therefore, the entrance is cleaned as needed so that ferries and other ships can continue to sail safely in and out of the port.
This is where the sand cleaner Ask R comes into the picture 👇
Every year, between 300,000 and 500,000 m³ of sand is cleaned from the 🌊 entrance
A major work that takes place below the surface, but which is crucial for the traffic in and out of the Port ⚓ of Hirtshals
But what actually happens to all that sand?
Part is used for bypass, where the sand is moved past the harbour and placed out at sea. The rest is used for backpass, where the sand is returned to the shore and contributes to coastal protection.
