Proper dredging in River Bhairab demanded

The Movement Committee for Dredging of the River Bhairab on Monday submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner of Jashore demanding proper dredging of the river for the sake of free-flow of water.

The committee proposed a five-point charter of demands, including the implementation of Mathabhanga-Bhairab river links, taking steps against the irregularities at the time of dredging of the Bhairab and the River Kobadak, implementing tidal river management system at the Pakhimara water body, implementation of the TRM at Beel Kapalia and sharing of water of all the 54 rivers that have links with India.

Professor Afsar Ali, convener of the Bhairab River Movement Committee, advisers to the committee Iqbal Kabir Jahid and Zillur Rahman Bhitu, among others, were present during submission of the memorandum to the deputy commissioner Abraul Hasan Majumder.
