Posted on June 17, 2026

GULF COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – Cape San Blas has been the center of a major beach nourishment project since March 2026, receiving millions of dollars in grants to make it happen.

Gulf County Commissioners say it’s an investment for future growth.

Allowing tourists and residents to enjoy the beaches for years to come.

“The breakwaters are being put in place to extend the life of the of the beach instead of it eroding as fast as it has been eroded. This is a project is supposed to be able to slow it down,” Gulf County Commissioner Chairman Sandy Quinn said.

It was originally expected to be complete in June. However, Gulf County Commissioners voted to approve a contract extension, adding 60 days to the timeline.

Meaning, the project won’t be done until the end of July.

Construction will also pause for the 4th of July weekend, due to the anticipated increase in public activity in the area.
