Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly inspected the dredging and deepening project of Lake Burullus, now 99% complete, during a tour of development projects in Kafr El Sheikh governorate.
Madbouly said the state prioritizes preserving natural lakes to boost fish production, food security and jobs.
Housing Minister Randa El Manshawy said the project, executed by Arab Contractors under the Central Agency for Reconstruction, aims to improve water flow and fish breeding conditions across three phases dredging roughly 37 million cubic meters total, plus building marinas for fishermen and security forces.
Hani El Iskandarani, the agency’s head, noted Burullus is Egypt’s second-largest natural lake at 108,000 feddans, declared a nature reserve in 1998 with 28 islands.
Officials said the work integrates dredging with waterway development to restore water depth and circulation, supporting the lake’s ecological and economic role.
