Phase II of S. Hithadhoo old harbor breakwater construction progressing well

Phase two of the old harbor breakwater construction project in Hithadhoo district of southernmost Addu City is well underway.

This was revealed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) on Sunday.

As such, taking to Twitter to provide the latest updates of the Hithadhoo old harbor breakwater construction project, MTCC revealed that the final shipment of concrete blocks required for quay wall construction was delivered to the project site on February 2.

Currently ongoing are dredging and reclamation operations.

The dredging and reclamation component of the project has reached overall 55 percent progress.

MTCC during October 2023 delivered the second shipment of concrete blocks required for quay wall construction.

Under the scope of the project, MTCC is required to conduct land reclamation operations in an area measuring 5.88 hectares.

MTCC will also be building a revetment measuring 419 meters, a quay wall measuring 728 meters, a 270-meter groyne and a harbor pavement spanning an area of 5,455 square meters.

The project also entails the construction of a scour apron, a ramp measuring 12 meters by 12 meters and a bridge measuring 10 meters by 96 meters.

The Hithadhoo old harbor breakwater construction project’s second phase is valued at MVR 130.26 million.
