Perennial Flooding: Ejeh Ibaji Renew Calls For River Niger Dredging

Posted on January 11, 2023

The Ejeh of Ibaji and Chairman of the Ibaji Traditional Council in Kogi State, His Royal Highness Ajofe John Egwemi, has again called on the federal government to complete the dredging of the River Niger and embark on building dams as a long-term solution to the perennial flooding problem.

The monarch re-affirmed his call while receiving a donation from Igala Association USA for flood victims in all the wards in Ibaji for Seedlings to be implemented by the Ibaji Unity Forum (IUF) organization on behalf of Igala Association USA.

A statement by the public relations officer of the Igala USA, Raphael Agbali, indicated that the payment check of N2.2 million was presented to the President IUF, Mr Stephen Ugbeda Uchola at the Ejeh Ibaji palace in Idah.

Chief Egwemi prayed for all donors and passed on the cheque on behalf of Igala Association USA President, Mrs. Teresa Edoja, the board of trustees and individual donors from Igala Association USA.

He lauded the collaboration of traditional rulers, catholic and other faith based non-governmental organizations and all people of goodwill in responding to this humanitarian disaster.

He appealed to Igala Association USA and all privileged organizations to use their vantage positions in making the clarion call for governments and global multilateral agencies to speedily commence infrastructural, ecological and human development projects to avoid the level of human suffering experienced in the low-lying riverine areas recently.
