Paul Pathy, the CEO of Canada’s largest dry bulk shipping company – Fednav, has been elected as the President of the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO) at the organization’s general meeting in Copenhagan on May 14. He takes over as the 47th President.
Pathy, who will be taking over from Nikolaus H. Schues, is also the first BIMCO President from the Americas. In a statement, he highlighted that he is committed to raising awareness about the invaluable contributions of the shipping industry and seafarers.
The newly elected executive said the industry faces significant challenges. “We are at a critical juncture where free trade is under threat and geopolitical tensions are escalating. It is crucial that we support our industry, ensure the safety of our seafarers and facilitate a global marketplace.”
He said its an honor to represent the industry and take on the leadership of BIMCO.
Paul Pathy Focused on Goals
Before taking up the top position at Fednav, Paul Pathy worked in a private equity in Kansas City, Missouri, followed by a tech startup in Atlanta, Georgia. In an interview in February 2025, he shared that he is always focused on setting goals and seeking challenges. “I regularly speak to our company about the importance of setting goals and achieving things, regardless of whether you are the intern in the mail room or the EVP.”
Pathy believes in setting targets and going after them. He pointed out that achievements are reached when one sets goals and tries to push oneself to be uncomfortable. “I’m trying to take the business in a specific direction, and I want to grow it in a certain way. And personally, I try to keep learning and testing my limits physically and creatively – if I want to succeed, I need to set a course for the business, for myself, and as a family.”
