Pattaya City beach repair brigade refills trenches after the storm

Posted on September 13, 2022

Last Sunday night heavy rainstorms hit Pattaya and Jomtien, causing widespread floods on practically all the roads in and around the city.

Our beaches which the authorities spent millions of baht to fill and widen seem to be the most vulnerable when it rains.

Apparently, they were designed for sunny weather only because after every downpour city engineers rush out to resurface and refill the deep trenches with sand washed away by flood waters.

And each time the mayor and his team inspect the area reassuring the public that they will find a permanent fix to the problem.

The authorities blame the damage on heavy rains and the runoff, which is a natural phenomenon, but not on the quality and knowhow that went into the design and materials used in the beach rejuvenation operations.

In any case most of the trenches are refilled again and the beaches look like new, until the next thunderstorm hits…which is all week this week.

Heavy rainfall and the runoff into the sea create huge sinkholes on the beach

The morning after shows the extent of damage cause by the runoff into the sea

One must commend Mayor Poramet Ngampichet and his team for getting the beaches repaired the very next day
