Park renewal project to begin at Brighton Beach, shoreline restoration still underway

Posted on July 26, 2023

Brighton Beach is a mile long city park, and projects are continuing.

A couple are related to the shoreline restoration, after storms wreaked havoc back in 2017 and 2018. Getting the funding puzzle pieces put together took some time, along with the design work.

Some of it had been 3/4 of the way done, when another storm last fall destroyed their progress.

But now they are on track to finish the restoration work this year.

And on a more exciting front for the public, the park renewal phase of the projects is about to begin.

“We are going to have permanent bathrooms, new picnic tables and new playground equipment. It’s one of the most exciting projects we have going on right now,” shared Mike LeBeau, Construction Project Supervisor.

The plan is to have the road construction start next summer. That project required an environmental study, and has some limitations due to long-eared bats and threatened plant communities.

The road has been closed for several years, after the storms. You can still access Brighton Beach via the Lakewalk.

“I love coming down here, without a lot of people, and getting right down to the water,” shared Marty Maddy.

“The lake is different now, we can’t do things way we used to. Once we get it cleaned up and straightened up, and reconfigured, it’s going to be a really nice new park,” LeBeau added.
