Palm Beach appoints three members to Shore Protection Board

The Palm Beach Town Council reappointed one member and added two new faces to the Shore Protection Board.

During the Dec. 9 meeting, board member Joel Zystra earned a second term as a regular member of the panel, which makes recommendations to the Town Council about coastal management, beach nourishment, coastal “armoring” and the sand-transfer plant, among its duties.

Zystra will be joined by newcomers Timothy Cohan and Austin Fragomen. They’re stepping into the seats left vacant by member Erick Reickert and board Chair Melissa Ceriale, both of whom were term-limited and ineligible for reappointment.

Cohan, a North End resident and retired investment banker, said he moved to the island in 2019, and since then has spent many hours working with local organizations. He noted his membership in the Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach and his involvement in the Intracoastal and Lagoon Committee of the Palm Beach Civic Association.

“With a degree in geology and a lifelong passion for environmental issues, I have a deep appreciation for coastal preservation,” he told the board.
