June 8 (Renewables Now) – Danish energy major Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) announced on Wednesday that it has opened an office in Madrid with a view to pursue development of gigawatts of land-based renewables in Spain.

Ørsted said it had set up four partnerships with locally-based and geographically scattered companies — Glide Energy, Rolwind, Arba Energias Renovables and Ereda — that will support project development and services. Renewable energy solutions firm Ereda and Glide Energy, which was founded by a team in association with Green Investment Group, are both in Madrid. Rolwind is headquartered in Cordoba, southern Spain, and Arba has offices in Madrid and northern Spain.

Ørsted says the partnerships have set the short-term goal of developing onshore wind and solar PV projects in Spain that will enable the Danish company to participate in the country’s grid auction expected in mid-2022. In the long term, Ørsted will seek to develop onshore wind, solar PV and energy storage projects that can be commercialised either through government auction or via corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs).

The move onshore follows Ørsted’s earlier announcement that it would explore floating wind opportunities in Spain in partnership with multi-energy major Repsol SA (BME:REP).

“The expected presence across technologies will enable the company to provide a full suite of solutions to corporate and governmental customers,” said Ørsted.
