One year of South Fork Wind! To sum up year one: this project has been delivering affordable, reliable energy.
In its first year of operations, South Fork Wind has supplied energy to Long Island Power Authority that New York can depend on. Through heat waves and growing energy demand, this project is generating electricity 92% of the time for over 70,000 homes, reaching a 53% capacity factor in the first half of this year that is comparable to New York’s most efficient natural gas plants.
As America’s first commercial-scale offshore wind project, South Fork Wind is representative of how reliable, domestic energy can be built in partnership with local businesses, communities, and industries.
Building the project spurred investment in the domestic supply chain, reinvigorated steel manufacturing and shipbuilding, and brought new opportunities to local communities across the country.
