The eagle (transformer) has landed to help deliver power from Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm ⚡
Our last of nine massive transformers has arrived on site at Hornsea 3’s Onshore Converter Station.
With each one weighing up to 272 tonnes, the equivalent of 150 average cars, it’s taken quite the operation to get them in place. Due to their size, the ABB transformers from Hitachi Energy were overseen by crews of a handful of people and even had their own police escort during transport!
It’s simple: no transformers means no power. That makes them a hugely important part of the Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm, helping to deliver 2.9 GW of renewable energy to the UK National Grid, enough to power more than 3.3 million homes.
