After two years of production, all four offshore substations for Baltica 2 are now complete 🙌
Each substation weighs around 3,500 tonnes and spans five floors. Before reaching the Baltic Sea, the four substations passed more than 720 commissioning tests, ensuring their complex electrical systems are ready for operation offshore.
Together, they will form the heart of the wind farm’s electrical system, collecting power from 107 wind turbines and ensuring it flows safely and reliably to shore.
“The successful completion of the on-site fabrication, assembly, and commissioning activities for the offshore substations marks an important achievement for the project. It demonstrates what can be accomplished through close cooperation, commitment, and determination while upholding the highest safety standards throughout every stage of the work,” said Ulrik Ankerstjerne Lange, Managing Director of the Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm at Ørsted.
With the foundations already in place, the offshore substations will soon begin their journey to the wind farm site for installation at sea, bringing Baltica 2, a joint project between Ørsted and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna, another step closer to delivering renewable energy for Poland.
