…Seeks to Benefit from NIMASA’s CVFF Fund

Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Bola Oyebamiji has appealed to the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy for funding in other to carryout its Key Performance Indicators in line with Performance Bond that was signed with the Minister in December last year.

Part of the key performance indicator is the dredging of the 2000KM navigable waterways and the completion of Jamaja Inland Port in Lokoja.

Oyebamiji stated this on Tuesday at a one-day visit of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola and inauguration of some projects executed by NIWA at its headquarters in Lokoja, Kogi State.

Similarly, the NIWA boss has urged the Ministry to ensure that the Cabotage Vessel Finance Fund (CVFF) which is warehoused by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) should be disbursed promptly for the greater good of the maritime sector.

He pleaded that NIWA be supported to benefit maximally from this fund and its administrative set-up.

“As an Authority, the responsibilities placed on our shoulders are enormous amidst limited resources.

“As an agency, we are confronted with many challenges, including inter-agencies rivalry occasioned by overlapping functions. This calls for speedy action on the NIWA Act currently before the National Assembly.

“Also, we are working hard to deliver on the bond signed with the Honourable Minister late last year. However, we plead for your support in facilitating funding for our major Key Performance Indicators; especially the capital dredging of 2000 km, and the completion of the ongoing inland port at Jamaja, Lokoja.

:These are some of the areas where we need your quick intervention for us to achieve our mandates. Sir, with your kind permission, we shall present a list of issues we consider critical to our success for your attention” Oyebamiji said
