Both were built by Damen Shipyards, the dredger in its yard in Nijkerk, the Netherlands and the workboat in Changde, China, after they were ordered by the client in November 2022.
Dredger Krakatoa was built to Damen’s CSD 650 design with a complete Damen dredging package, including a submerged dredge pump, onboard pump, spares and training, and was inspected by PFNM before shipment to Indonesia.
Krakatoa has total 3,938 kW of installed power and its dredge production will be 7,000 m3/hr on average.
Damen customised it for the client with a deck crane, an anchor boom installation, a dredge valve and a swivel in the discharge piping, plus a complete dredging instrumentation package.
Following inspection, the dredger was transported to Rotterdam, the Netherlands. From there it will be shipped fully assembled as deck cargo on a heavy lift ship to the Port of Balikpapan, Indonesia.
Workboat Tinombala was built to a Damen Multi Cat (MuC) 1506 design and was granted technical approval from PFNM following a 3D remote tour on board the vessel.
Both vessels will be deployed at a port expansion project in Kalimantan.
