New Quanzhou-Vladivostok container line launched

Posted on September 20, 2022

A new container shipping line has been launched in China’s Quanzhou connecting the Russian port city of Vladivostok.

A Panamanian containership carrying 12 TEU of cargo left Quanzhou on 15 September, according to Xinhua. It is expected to arrive at its destination around 22 September.

Quanzhou was the starting point of the ancient maritime Silk Road.

The city’s commerce bureau said that Quanzhou’s trade volume with countries and regions along the current maritime Silk Road surpassed 100 billion yuan ($14.3 billion) last year.

Earlier this week, local authorities in China ordered the stop of all operations at major ports as Muifa, one of this year’s strongest typhoons, hit the country’s coastal areas on 14 September.

After passing Taiwan, typhoon Muifa turned north toward the Port of Shanghai – Asia’s largest container shipping hub – as well as the Ningbo region, the second busiest container port complex in China.
