LONG BEACH, Calif. — Nearly 70 shipping containers have fallen off a cargo ship and into the water at the Port of Long Beach in southern California, officials said.

Details are limited, but ABC Los Angeles affiliate KABC’s helicopter was above the scene Tuesday morning, and captured the containers scattered across the water.

According to Port of Long Beach officials, no injuries or pollution has been reported.

The containers fell about 9 a.m. local time.

The U.S. Coast Guard previously said 20 containers fell into the water and 50 collapsed on the vessel.

But officials later said about 67 shipping containers fell off the ship and into the water.

Cargo operations have been temporarily suspended at the terminal as responders work to secure the containers.

Authorities will lead the effort to determine the cause of the incident. The containers fell from the vessel Mississippi while it was berthed at the Pier G container terminal.
