Mythos AI announced that it has logged more than 11,000 miles in fully autonomous navigation, marking what the company called a world-first milestone in shipping navigation. The company reported more than 15,000 safe, COLREGs-compliant interactions during these operations.
Mythos AI’s autonomous vessel “Archie” recently navigated 803 miles in the Houston–Galveston Ship Channel entirely in autonomous mode, maintaining an average speed just under 21 knots and executing 1,290 COLREGs-compliant interactions. The company said its modular command-and-control technology is field-ready and includes multi-vessel coordination capabilities.
Mythos AI stated that its Mythos Navigation (MNAV) system has been validated in commercial and defense waterways, with an operating range from idle to 30 knots, more than 3,500 hours of proprietary perception data, and over 150 million radar and camera frames used for AI training.
CEO Geoff Douglass said: “The limiting factor to scaling autonomy for the Navy is navigation. That’s why we set out to establish the gold standard for autonomous navigation, starting with a commercial-first mentality. By proving our system in the toughest environments, we’ve built the system that both industry and defense have been waiting for.”
The company also introduced its Advanced Pilot Assist System (APAS), which it described as a COLREGs-compliant autonomy solution designed to act as an intelligent co-pilot. According to Mythos AI, APAS is already operating in major maritime corridors in North America and has U.S. Coast Guard approval for use across U.S. ports and harbors.
Mythos AI said its technology has been included in fifteen defense teaming initiatives, including collaborations with a top ten U.S. shipyard and Tier-1 Navy prime contractors. The company also reported recognition from the Mississippi Small Business Development Center with the Blue Economy Innovator of the Year Award, as well as pilot projects with Southern Devall on the Mississippi River and with CB Tankers and Lomar Shipping for tanker ship operations.
