Posted on May 29, 2023

The boat beaching area project initiated in Velidhoo island of Noonu atoll has been completed.

This was revealed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company on Sunday.

As such, providing the latest update of the Velidhoo boat beaching area project via Twitter, MTCC revealed that they have wrapped up the project.

Under the scope of the project, MTCC reclaimed an area measuring 1.5 hectares and levelled a reclaimed area measuring 138,247 square meters.

The company also constructed a revetment measuring 214 meters and a 100-meter breakwater as part of the project.

The Velidhoo boat beaching area project was valued at MVR 18.39 million.

The project was contracted to MTCC by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure on 6 April 2021.

A majority of the community of Velidhoo, which has a population of 2,700 people, work in the tourism sector with some also working in the fisheries sector. Due to the lack of a separate boat beaching area on the island, the residents of Velidhoo have been facing the issue for a long time now.

As an island that sees the beaching of many safaris, the hardships faced by the residents have been multiplying.

However, the incumbent administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has since resolved the issue and established a modern boat beaching area in Velidhoo.

With the completion of the project, many of the issues facing the island residents have been resolved now.

Spanning the past 42 years, MTCC has completed a number of development projects across the island nation.
