The Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) has announced the addition of King Abdulaziz Port to MSC’s new freight service.
This new connection is expected to boost the port’s standing as a key hub for regional and global trade, while also contributing to the fulfillment of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS).
The port, based in Dammam, will now offer weekly sailings to eight destinations in the Arabian Gulf, South Asia, and Southern Africa, including ports such as Qasim in Pakistan, Port Louis in Mauritius, and Durban in South Africa.
The new MSC service began on 21 January and will feature five vessels, each with an average carrying capacity exceeding 6000 TEU.
According to MAWANI, the addition of King Abdulaziz Port to the MSC freight service is a significant step in strengthening the Kingdom’s position as a hub for logistics and trade, and it is expected to have a positive impact on the economic growth of the Eastern Province and the surrounding regions.
In addition to the MSC freight service, King Abdulaziz Port has also seen added services such as SeaLead Shipping’s Far East to Middle East (FAM) service, Emirates Shipping Line’s Jebel Ali Bahrain Shuwaikh (JBS) service, Aladin Express’ Gulf-India Express 2 (GIX2) service, and Maersk’s Shaheen Express service.
MSC and Maersk just announced the mutual decision to terminate the 2M alliance in January 2025.
