Molgas enters Belgium market with inaugural LNG bunkering ops in Zeebrugge, Antwerp

Posted on February 26, 2024

Molgas Group on Thursday (22 February) announced its entry into the Belgium LNG bunkering market with a new achievement: two inaugural bunkering operations conducted on the same day beginning of this week, serving diverse clients and vessel types in Zeebrugge and Antwerp.

The operations, facilitated through multiple trucks, mark a significant milestone for Molgas Group and the Belgium maritime industry.

“Months of collaboration with local port authorities culminated in the acquisition of a coveted LNG bunkering permit for both the Port of Antwerp and Zeebrugge, valid for a five-year duration,” the firm said in a statement.

“This regulatory milestone not only showcases Molgas Group’s adherence to stringent safety and operational standards but also signifies a pivotal moment in the region’s transition towards cleaner marine fuels.”

Central to Molgas Group’s approach is the implementation of its proprietary Multi Truck Solution to optimise LNG delivery efficiency. Utilising an in-house developed skid, the technology enables the simultaneous unloading of four trailers, ensuring a seamless and rapid transfer of LNG to vessels.

Johannes Richter, Group Lead Marine at Molgas Group, expressed enthusiasm for the company’s debut in the Belgium market, said, “We are pleased about the cooperation with the authorities and the start of our LNG Bunkering activities in the Belgium Market. The long term permit enables us to support the market development via our proven systematic of Multi-Truck-to-Ship deliveries.”

“This sentiment encapsulates Molgas Group’s unwavering dedication to driving sustainable growth and innovation in the global maritime sector.”
