Posted on August 15, 2022

Expect the dredging of the Eastpoint Channel and Two Mile to begin in October.

But definitely by Christmas.

Waylon Register, a civil engineer who serves as site manager of Panama City office of the Army Corps of Engineers, said Mike Hooks Inc. is in the process of working on a project on the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway.

“As soon as they finish up there they will be headed to see you,” Register said. “I think the dredge should show up sometime in October.”

He said the first order of business will be to construct the area in Eastpont, bear th western breakwater, from where they’ll use dredge material to create a marshy area.

“To begin with they have to build some berm containment around the water side, and fill in with stuff they dug from the channel,” he said.

The channel will be between 6 and 8 feet.

The cost of the project will be about $7.05 million.

“We should see some activity between Labor Day and Christmas,” Register said.
