MAWANI, SIRC ink green deal

Posted on September 25, 2023

The Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) has signed an agreement with the Saudi Investment Recycling Company (SIRC) to boost collaboration across sustainability, marine safety, and oil spill control.

The deal was inked by Yousef Alhosan, Vice President for Supervision, Policies & Legislations at Mawani, and Abdulrahman Al-Obayed, SIRC’s Executive Vice President for HR and Shared Services.

It was signed in the presence of HE Omar Hariri, Mawani President, and HE Ziyad Al-Shiha, SIRC CEO, on the sidelines of the 2023 Saudi Maritime Congress.

The agreement is specifically tailored towards adopting sustainable ship waste recycling practices and strengthening response operations during oil and hazardous substances spills.

In addition, it is also tailored towards deploying satellite monitoring, modelling, and simulation across marine conservation efforts, enhance innovation in marine waste management, and incentivise economic and investment opportunities arising from SIRC’s incubators and projects.

In late August, Mawani and the Port of Rotterdam signed a partnership agreement aimed at enhancing joint cooperation in the field of developing smart ports.

More recently, MAWANI announced that its ports achieved an increase in the number of handling containers during the month of August 2023.
