Maritime Industry Calls for End to Jones Act Waiver to Strengthen U.S. Shipbuilding

Posted on July 9, 2026

America’s maritime industry is built by the men and women who stand ready to support our economy, strengthen our supply chains, and safeguard our national security.

The Jones Act has helped sustain that foundation for more than a century by supporting a strong domestic maritime industry and preserving critical capabilities here at home.

Temporary waivers may be intended to address short-term challenges, but long-term reliance on them creates uncertainty for the very industries and workforce our nation depends on. A strong maritime sector requires consistency, investment, and confidence in the future.

As conversations continue about the future of America’s maritime industry, we believe the time has come to end the waiver and reaffirm our commitment to building and maintaining domestic maritime capability.

This is much bigger than any one company or any one moment. We must preserve the capacity to build, respond, and deliver.

A strong maritime industry is in America’s best interest.
