A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers maintenance project to stabilize the banks of the Oahe Dam’s emergency spillway will require sections of the Lake Oahe Project’s West Shore Mountain Bike Trail to close for the public’s safety beginning November 10.

The gravel road leading to the primary mountain bike trailhead and a section of singletrack trails located just east of the emergency spillway will be closed. The rest of the mountain bike trail system will remain open and can be accessed from the gravel road to the east or from the overlook gravel road point on the eastern side of the trail system.

Construction barricades will be placed on the trail to indicate the areas that are closed.

Additionally, the area along the west side of the spillway will also be closed to public access. Restricted areas are identified in red on the map and visitors should plan accordingly.

The project is expected to last up to one year and is scheduled for completion by November 2025.

Please contact the Lake Oahe Project office at (605) 224-5862 for more information.
