The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District announced today that Mr. Ian Mitchell has been selected to serve as the new Engineering Division Chief for the district effective Sept. 25, 2022.
As the Chief of Engineering Division, Mitchell will lead a team of more than 330 personnel responsible for the execution of engineering products for the district’s civil works, military, and environmental programs. He will also be a member of the Louisville District Corporate Board, responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans for the organization.
“I am very excited for this amazing opportunity to lead such a great organization. The Louisville District Engineering team is the best in the Corps, and they are vital to the success of numerous critical missions like the regional and nationwide military construction programs, inland waterways navigation system design, flood risk management and environmental protection, just to name a few,” Mitchell said.
Mitchell has more than 15 years of experience working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Currently, he serves as the Chief, Reserve Branch, Construction Division and has served in various assignments throughout the district’s Engineering and Construction divisions. Mitchell also served as the Chief of Engineering and Construction Division in the Chicago District as part of a four-month developmental assignment. Mitchell deployed twice to Afghanistan in support of the USACE mission overseas, spending over 24 months deployed.
Mitchell is a registered Professional Engineer in Kentucky and is a graduate of both USACE Level II and III Leadership Development Programs and the Kentucky Leadership P.E. Program. Mitchell earned both a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Engineering degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Louisville.
