Legendary San Onofre Beach Reopens After Two Months Of Repairs

Posted on April 11, 2024

About the repairs: Over the years, storms battered the dirt roadway that allows beachgoers to park on the sand. Adding to the road damage was a broken drainage system that was installed in the bluffs above the road. A series of heavy storms early this year ultimately washed out the road.

The repair work was done by California State Parks and Camp Pendleton.

Future of the beach: The beach is currently being leased to the state by the Navy, with the lease set to expire on Aug. 31. California State Parks did not respond to a request for comment on the lease agreement.
