Kure Beach holds meeting on new beach management plan

Posted on December 18, 2023

KURE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Kure Beach held a public meeting Friday afternoon to hear public comments on the town’s new beach management plan.

Kure Beach was able to create the plan because of the success the town had with its beach re-nourishment program that expanded the town’s dunes.

The plan also came about due to recent rule changes made by the NC Coastal Resources Commission.

Kure Beach’s new mayor Allen Oliver said this plan will help homeowners rebuild following major storms.

“It gives them the ability to move seaward some because if we don’t change these rules, there’s potentially places that wouldn’t be allowed to rebuild,” Oliver said. “If that does happen, and our homeowners, they don’t have to go by the original development line. It can now expand because the dunes have gotten bigger.”

The plan will be submitted to the Commission for approval during their meeting in February.
