Karachi Port has completed dredging works that deepen its navigation channel and East Wharf berths, allowing Noatum Ports Karachi Terminals to handle larger container and bulk vessels.
The navigation channel has been deepened to 14 metres, while berth depths at East Wharf now reach 15.5 metres.
Noatum Ports said the increased depth will allow the terminal to accommodate containerships of up to 350 metres in length and bulk vessels of up to 120,000 metric tonnes.
The upgrade expands the range of vessels able to call at Karachi and is expected to improve cargo flows and reduce constraints for shipping lines using Pakistan’s main maritime gateway.
The dredging also strengthens East Wharf’s role within Karachi Port as operators continue to invest in infrastructure capable of handling larger ships and heavier cargo volumes.
