Joint Exploration in South China Sea Proposed

The leader of House Independent Bloc said that the claimant countries in the South China Sea should start considering the possible joint exploration and development in the disputed islands to peacefully resolve the tense situation in the region.

Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez, who is gunning for Senate urged all claimant countries to engage in mutually-beneficial initiatives that would lead to peaceful resolution of the conflict.

“Although the matter is now in the Arbitral Tribunal, I agree that the ultimate solution to end the dispute is to engage into a possible joint exploration agreement involving all claimant-countries. This is the path toward the peaceful resolution of the protracted dispute. Nobody wants war,” Romualdez, a lawyer and the president of the Philippine Constitution Association (Philconsa) said.
