Brevard County is soliciting licensed and qualified marine contractors to dredge (hydraulic only), dewater, and dispose of up to 223,600 cubic yards of organic sediments (muck) from up to 80 acres of the Sykes Creek Phase II Muck Removal Project. The dredge area located in Merritt Island in Brevard County, Florida, North of County Road 520 (E Merritt Island Causeway) and South of County Road 528 (Jimmy Buffet Memorial Hwy). A temporary dewatering facility is available at the “Nandivada” Property owned by Brevard County located on Merritt Island off N Banana River Dr South of Phyllis Dr. This property is located approximately 1.5 miles Southeast of the center of the dredge template area. This project is part of Brevard County’s Save Our Indian River Lagoon program aimed to improve water quality and habitat by removing this accumulation of muck which harms marine life and releases stored nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) that can trigger algal blooms.
