Huanghai Shipbuilding in northeast China has sealed a debut product tanker newbuilding deal with a compatriot owner.
Tianjin-based New Legend Group has contracted the yard in Weihai for two firm and two optional 50,000 dwt MR product carriers.
Financial terms surrounding the first pair delivering in 2026 have not been divulged. Other yards in China have most recently priced similar MR tonnage at between $45m and $46.5m.
Celebrating its 80th birthday this year, Huanghai is best known for its shipbuilding know-how in the multipurpose heavylift, containership and roro segments. The MR deal will also be the first for New Legend, whose shipping unit is involved in the dry bulk and general cargo trades.
