HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — The federally funded beach renourishment project along the Horry County coastline is about 90% to 95% complete, according to an Horry County Government Facebook post.
County officials said on crews have spent the past week working in the Surfside beach area, including the oceanfront campgrounds, as construction continues toward Myrtle Beach State Park.
Beginning Tuesday, July 28, crews will temporarily move into Georgetown County for two days. After that work is complete, they will return to the campground area and continue north toward the southern end of Myrtle Beach State Park.
Once that section is finished, the dredge will return to Garden City to place sand south of the Garden City Pier. Construction will continue south before the project is expected to wrap up near the Georgetown County line in late August.
The beach renourishment project began in December and is restoring sand along Horry County’s beaches to provide greater protection against erosion and storm impacts while helping safeguard nearby infrastructure. Residents can track the projects progress through the construction map provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Charleston District.
